LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – A team of volunteers is heading out to check on folks on the streets or in camps to make sure they have winter food and clothing when the temperature in the Las Vegas Valley drops to or below freezing.
The Promise’s primary objective is to provide homeless people in the desert with water. The objective this winter extends to essential winter gear: gloves, long johns, sleeping bags, jackets and layers. They distribute on the weekends to locations where people camp in expeditions referred to as “Sunday Service.”
They have observed more folks who are struggling and sleeping on the streets or in camps, much like other Clark County officials.
“There is an extreme need. There has been a rise. We recently had a loss as a result of one of our members tragically dying while attempting to remain warm throughout the winter. He had a tent fire,” Diana Pedraza Harrison said. They need layers since it is winter, she explained.
Additionally, the organization donates items to the Community of Hope’s mobile pantry. Volunteers with the promise make sure that when individuals visit the pantry to acquire food or other items, they may also get the necessary winter clothing.
“We support extreme hospitality. So, she continued, “a lot of the footwork we do comes to them.
If you’ve never experienced homelessness, you don’t understand what it’s like… You never consider how someone would have to go without a car, an ID, or money, according to Michael Harrison, who was once homeless himself.
According to Diana Pedraza Harrison, “We’re doing what we can to meet the demand.”
The company also focuses on providing assistance with the restoration of ID and Social Security cards.
