RENO, Nev. (775 Times, NV Globe) – Tesla made plans to construct a new, $3.5 billion advanced manufacturing facility east of Sparks to produce its all-electric semi trucks public on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the White House, the facility, which will be built at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, is anticipated to generate more than 3,000 employment.

Late last year, Tesla gave PepsiCo its first electric semis. According to Musk, the vehicles can go 500 miles (800 kilometers) on a single charge when towing a load weighing 82,000 pounds (37,000 kilograms). By 2024, the business wants to produce 50,000 Semi vehicles in North America.

“The manufacturing boom of President Biden’s first two years continues today with Tesla’s announcement that they will invest more than $3.6 billion in battery and electric semi-truck manufacturing in Sparks, Nevada. This announcement is the latest in more than $300 billion in private sector investment in clean energy and semiconductor manufacturing announced since the President took office. It will create more than 3,000 good-paying jobs in Nevada helping America lead in clean energy manufacturing, strengthening our energy security, and ultimately lowering costs for families,” said Mitch Landrieu, President Joe Biden’s Infrastructure Coordinator.

Musk announced that manufacturing will start in 2019 and that the Tesla Semi trucks would be able to follow one another automatically in a convoy during an event in November 2017 where they were first unveiled. But he said that Tesla’s “Full Self Driving” technology is not yet prepared to be driverless at the company’s third quarter earnings conference call in October 2022.
