Gov. Joe Lombardo Issues Emergency Declaration Amid Gas Shortage In The Las Vegas Valley

LAS VEGAS – The governor of Nevada, Joe Lombardo, declared a state of emergency on Friday night after reports of a pipeline spill in California prompted a gas shortage in the Las Vegas valley.

The emergency declaration is designed to assist in lifting limits on trucking and other gasoline distribution methods in Clark County.

“This leak has not impacted the supply of fuel, but rather the method in which this fuel normally comes into Southern Nevada,” county authorities stated.

The county stated that its representatives are in contact with Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, which operates the affected pipeline, to obtain updated information on the status of repairs.

Officials stated, “This declaration allows for our region to leave no stone unturned as we seek to continue to provide unleaded and diesel fuel to our residents as well as our emergency response providers,”

The governor’s office will be in “constant communication” with Kinder Morgan and Clark County officials to check the gas supply, he said.

“To avoid any unnecessary shortages, I strongly urge all Las Vegas residents to avoid panic buying while awaiting repair timeline updates,” added Lombardo.
