Flood Watch Issued for Reno and Carson City as Temperatures Soar

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, May 17, 2023 4:54 pm

NEVADA – A flood watch has been issued for the greater Reno and Carson City area as temperatures are expected to rise and cause significant snowmelt over the next several days. The watch is set to go into effect on Thursday evening and last until Monday afternoon.

Residents in Reno, Lake Tahoe, Carson City, and parts of eastern California should be prepared for excessive runoff that may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, and streams, as well as other low-lying and flood-prone areas. The National Weather Service in Reno has warned that unseasonably warm temperatures will cause excessive snowmelt and runoff from higher mountain areas into lower elevation locations along the Carson River, Walker River basins, and eastern Sierra basins.

Stay safe and stay alert during this period of potential flooding in the region.
