NEVADA – Washoe County to implement an environmentally-friendly aerial mosquito abatement program via helicopter in the coming weeks.
Due to the retirement of the previous helicopter company, the program faced a delay in finding a new vendor. The Vector Borne Disease Program (VBD) is actively working to secure a new provider for aerial treatment of wetlands and water sources near public areas. Residents in mosquito-prone areas such as North Valleys, Spanish Springs, Damonte Ranch, and Washoe Lake can expect the aerial treatment to resume soon.
The VBD program emphasizes the importance of mosquito control to prevent the spread of West Nile virus (WNV) and encourages residents to remain vigilant.
Current monitoring indicates that mosquito numbers are relatively low-to-average in Washoe County due to favorable weather conditions.
