Dolphin from The Mirage Dies at Coral World Ocean Park

LAS VEGAS – A heartbreaking event has occurred as one of the three dolphins that were relocated from The Mirage earlier this year has passed away. The dolphin, known as Huf-N-Puf, died at the Coral World Ocean Park’s Sea Sanctuary in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. The sanctuary announced the sad news on their Facebook page, revealing the challenging battle Huf-N-Puf faced with an infection since her arrival in May.

Despite the dedicated efforts of the park’s team to provide her with the best care and treatment, Huf-N-Puf’s condition did not fully stabilize. The sudden loss has left many unanswered questions, and a thorough necropsy was performed by the park’s veterinarian. The results are pending, and as of now, no conclusive findings have been reported.

Coral World Ocean Park expressed their deep sadness over losing Huf-N-Puf, despite the short time they had to know her. The sanctuary highlighted her wonderful nature and the immediate connection she made with those who cared for her.

Earlier this year, in late May, the last three Atlantic bottlenose dolphins that were under The Mirage’s care at Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat were relocated to the U.S. Virgin Islands. This move was part of the transition following the purchase of The Mirage by Hard Rock from MGM Resorts International. The Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat closed as plans were made to provide the dolphins with new homes.

This unfortunate event adds to the recent changes in the animal population at The Mirage’s former habitat, as the last of Siegfried & Roy’s exotic big cats were also moved earlier this summer.
