Temporary Bridges Set to Navigate Las Vegas Grand Prix Circuit During Race

LAS VEGAS – To facilitate seamless movement for hotel guests, employees, and first responders during the Las Vegas Grand Prix race, four temporary vehicle bridges have been strategically positioned around the 3.8-mile circuit. These bridges will enable access to the remainder of the city for guests residing in approximately 23,000 hotel rooms encircled by the racing track.

In preparation for the upcoming event, one of the four bridges underwent rigorous testing involving heavy vehicles to ensure its functionality for accommodating fire trucks and other large vehicles. The largest bridge, spanning 760 feet and featuring four lanes, has been engineered to highway-grade specifications, as highlighted by Project Manager Terry Miller.

Miller emphasized the unique challenges posed by Las Vegas’ resort corridor, stating, “There are a lot of things that are just different here in Las Vegas than anywhere else in the world for an F1 event. We don’t have a lot of overpasses in the resort corridor that allow traffic to move freely over the main circuit area so we have to build the overpasses.”

The most extensive bridge will be erected on Flamingo Avenue, spanning over Koval Lane. Smaller bridges will be situated at Audrie and Harmon, as well as from the Top Golf parking lot to Caesars.

During the race weekend, access to these bridges will be restricted to individuals possessing appropriate credentials, such as hotel guests, employees, and emergency services personnel. This restriction will be enforced from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. each night. For all other individuals, bridge access will be available when the race is not in progress.

The construction of these bridges is expected to commence in mid-October. Efforts are being undertaken to prevent traffic congestion, focusing on effective communication and the development of a comprehensive mobility plan.

While the bridges provide convenient pathways for race-related activities, barriers and netting will be in place to ensure that spectators on the bridges do not obstruct the view or inadvertently interfere with the race.

In addition to the temporary vehicle bridges, three to four temporary pedestrian bridges are being erected exclusively for the duration of the F1 event. The organizers anticipate repurposing these bridges for subsequent races over the next decade.

The precise cost of these endeavors remains to be determined and will be disclosed in due course, as outlined by Miller.
