NEVADA – An incident in Elko took a dangerous turn when 32-year-old Emilio Contreras-Canales discharged a firearm, resulting in damage to two residences. The Elko Police Department swiftly responded to a report of multiple gunshots heard in the area of Park Road this past Sunday night around 9:30 p.m.
Contreras-Canales claimed he had fired the shots in self-defense against individuals who were allegedly attacking him. However, his story underwent multiple changes during questioning by the police.
Upon investigation, officers discovered bullet holes in two nearby residences. Further evidence was found when an empty magazine was located on Contreras-Canales’ person. Initially, he asserted that he dropped the firearm during the altercation, but he later confessed to having hidden it at a friend’s residence. The firearm was eventually recovered.
Contreras-Canales also admitted to having consumed alcohol and methamphetamine earlier in the day. Consequently, he was booked into the Elko County Jail on charges related to the incident.
The Elko Police Department is urging residents in the vicinity to report any property damage resulting from this incident by contacting them at 775-777-7310. Public cooperation is essential in ensuring the safety and security of the community.
