LAS VEGAS – Edward Kim, a 42-year-old North Las Vegas resident, is being charged with numerous felonies in a startling and unsettling case. The victim told officials that she was raped, held captive, and severely beaten over a two-day period.

When the Clark County Fire Department arrived on the scene on November 16, they found a woman “covered in wounds on her hands, feet, and chest.” They immediately notified the Las Vegas police. The woman was taken to University Medical Center, citing the arrest record from the Metropolitan Police Department, where she described the horrifying experience that Kim was accused of causing.

The report states that Kim, using zip ties, assaulted the woman with bolt cutters, burned her hair with a torch lighter, and engaged in sexual assault, forcing her to endure further trauma by recording the acts on his cell phone.

A sexual assault nurse examiner revealed the extent of the victim’s injuries, including fractures to both knee caps, her nose, both forearms, right leg, and left ring finger. The woman also suffered seven puncture wounds to her legs, contusions on her torso, and singed hair.

Police subsequently located Kim hiding between two cars in the parking lot of his apartment complex. Upon entering his two-bedroom apartment, Kim claimed ignorance about the events, mentioning that “we were messing around” and attributing the blood on his couch to the woman’s foot. His disjointed responses to detectives included references to his children and an assertion that he is “not really a criminal.”

With a search warrant, investigators found multiple items, including digital photos, cameras, bolt cutters, zip ties, and security cameras in Kim’s apartment. He now faces charges that include domestic battery with a deadly weapon, first-degree kidnapping involving sex, sexual assault with a deadly weapon, and first-degree arson.

Edward Kim is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in North Las Vegas Justice Court on Dec. 5.
