Clark County School Board Member Faces Potential Removal

Las Vegas, Nevada – A Clark County School District (CCSD) board member is under fire after the District Attorney accused her of residency fraud.

DA Steven Wolfson sent a letter to board member Katie Williams stating that she must vacate her seat because she no longer resides in her district. Wolfson even alleges that Williams has moved out of the state of Nevada entirely.

Williams was elected to represent District B, which includes parts of North Las Vegas, northwestern Las Vegas, Mt. Charleston, and Indian Springs, in the 2020 election. She has until September 9 to respond to the DA’s letter.

However, the Clark County Education Association (CCEA) calls for even more drastic measures. In a letter released Wednesday, the union accused Board President Evelyn Garcia-Morales of “gross negligence” for ignoring concerns about Williams’ residency.

CCEA also demanded that any trustee who knew about Williams’ change in residency resign immediately. Additionally, the union called for the vacating of any 4-3 votes where Williams was the deciding vote during the time she was not a Nevada resident.

Furthermore, the union criticized the district’s policy that bars trustees from speaking directly to the media and community members, arguing that it hinders transparency and accountability.
