OPINION: Sensing Humiliating Defeat, Grant Denton Breaks Homeless Debate Promise
But mark your calendar for March 20 for something even better!
By Paul White, March 4, 2025 1:00 pm
In a not unexpected move, Karma Box/CARES Campus “celebrity” Grant Denton backed out of his promise to debate Education Crusade’s Paul White about Washoe County’s homeless programs. Denton’s decision was not a morally courageous one by any means, but it was certainly a smart one because he had a lot to lose.
Denton has achieved a national reputation, with the Left, for being a “homeless program expert.” He is Washoe County’s poster-boy for papering-over their failed, corrupt homeless programs – the kind of programs that played a part in the deaths of 77 local homeless people this past year.
Many politicians and bureaucrats have benefited from using the support and cachet of this former homeless drug-addict/street criminal to convince local residents that the County’s “low-barrier” federal homeless programs actually work.
There’s only one problem. They don’t.
Denton knows this is true, and he knows that I know it. That’s why he backed out of his commitment to debate me.
Denton knew that a debate would expose the abject failure of our county CARES Campus – including his personal programs – and inflame public opinion. It’s a safe bet that Washoe County Manager Eric Brown did not encourage Denton’s debate participation either.
But not to worry.
Education Crusade is still sponsoring a full presentation of what you would have heard – and more, if Grant Denton had found the courage to keep his word and debate Education Crusade.
This presentation will take place March 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Reno’s National Automobile Museum, and will answer the following questions.
- What is the scope of Washoe County’s growing homeless epidemic?
- What’s causing this problem and why is it getting worse?
- In what ways I’m not aware of is it affecting me?
- Hundreds of millions of dollars have been spent. What has it been used for?
- Who specifically is responsible for this problem?
- What is the solution?
Washoe County politicians, community leaders, peace officers and judges who are responsible for this homeless mess will be named; and their inter-connectedness with the County’s homeless problems will be explained. There will be time for audience questions after the presentation.
Event attendees will not go home feeling frustrated or depressed because Education Crusade will share a proven solution for our homeless epidemic that everyone will be able to start implementing immediately.
Specifically invited attendees who you will hear more about at this event include the following:
- RPD Police Chief Kathryn Nance
- Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam
- Homeless Court Judge Chris Hazlett-Stevens
- Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks
- Karma Box/Safe Camp Founder Grant Denton
- Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve
- Washoe County Manager Eric Brown
- Reno City Council Members
- Washoe County Commissioners
- Washoe County Library Director Jeff Scott
- Washoe County Media and Communications Manager Bethany Drysdale
- Washoe County Community Outreach Coordinator Alexandra Wilson
- Volunteers of America Regional Vice-President Travis Sandefur
The Education Crusade event will be broadcast live on Drew Ribar’s Youtube Channel: “Auditing Reno 911,” and local media will also be in attendance. A full video of the presentation will be available for anyone unable to attend in person.
More details will be released closer to the March 20 event date.
