Nevada’s Legislative Session: Conservative Wins, Woke Bills Crushed, Fights Loom
By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, April 21, 2025 6:00 am
The 2025 Nevada Legislative Session is a high-stakes showdown, and conservatives are landing blows against progressive overreach. The April 11 Committee Passage Deadline killed 281 bills, a triumph of reason, but the April 22 First House Passage Deadline looms. Here’s the rundown of victories, threats, and the road ahead, delivered with unapologetic clarity.
Conservative Wins: Stopping the Left’s Madness
The Nevada GOP has been a bulwark, demolishing terrible bills. AB 101 and AB 176, abortion-expansion nightmares, were gutted or defeated, a win for life. AB 199, a gun-control fantasy, and SB 347, enabling firearm confiscation, were crushed, keeping the Second Amendment strong. SB 97, Obamacare for illegal immigrants, was gutted, proving Nevada won’t fund progressive lunacy.
On the bright side, AB 92, securing public spaces for political parties, and AB 423, freeing employers from unemployment insurance, passed committee. SB 415, expanding traffic cameras, was defeated again, halting surveillance creep. Take that, Big Brother.
Spotlight: Reba’s Law and Tax Reform
Reba’s Law, revived by Assemblywoman Melissa Hardy after public outcry, passed unanimously, delivering justice for abused animals. Meanwhile, AB 276, led by Assembly members P.K. O’Neill and Jill Dickman, ties the Commerce Tax to inflation, easing burdens on businesses amid 3.2% inflation in 2024.
The Bad Bills: Progressive Power Grabs
The left’s still pushing garbage. AJR 1, raising property taxes, passed committee, hitting Nevadans where the median home price is $450,000. AB 245, banning semiautomatic guns for under-21s, and SB 102, targeting 2020 election concerns, cleared hurdles. SB 141, letting criminals pick jails by gender identity, and AB 144, erasing Columbus Day, passed on party lines, showcasing woke insanity.
Exempt Bills: Battles Ahead
Exempt from the deadline, AB 67 (“baby bonds”) and AB 105, banning guns at polling sites, threaten liberty. SB 240, aiding small businesses, and AB 359, exempting bullion from sales tax, are conservative gems.
The Bottom Line
This session is a culture war snapshot: conservatives defending freedom, progressives pushing taxes and identity politics. Victories like stopping abortion expansions and traffic cameras are huge, but threats like AJR 1 persist. Stay engaged, Nevada. As Notorious B.I.G. said, “If you don’t know, now you know.”
