Health Alert: Legionella Bacteria Found in Two Prominent Las Vegas Resorts

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, May 22, 2025 4:14 pm

The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) is currently investigating five travel-associated cases of Legionnaires’ disease linked to two well-known Las Vegas hotels: The Grandview and South Point Hotel.

At The Grandview, three individuals who stayed at the property in February and April 2025 were hospitalized due to Legionnaires’ disease. Two have since recovered, while one remains hospitalized.

At South Point Hotel, two guests who stayed in August 2024 and February 2025 contracted the disease but have since recovered.

Environmental water sampling at both facilities revealed the presence of Legionella bacteria, the cause of Legionnaires’ disease. In response, both hotels are undertaking immediate water system remediation and follow-up testing. They are also notifying guests about potential exposure and implementing precautionary measures to mitigate further risk.

Legionnaires’ disease symptoms typically appear within two to ten days after exposure and include cough, shortness of breath, fever, muscle aches, and headaches. Individuals who stayed at The Grandview on or after March 27, 2025, or at South Point Hotel on or after April 16, 2025, and are experiencing symptoms within 14 days of their stay are urged to complete a confidential illness survey provided by SNHD.

For more information, contact the Health District’s Helpline at (702) 759-4636, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional details on Legionnaires’ disease are available on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at www.cdc.gov/legionella/index.html.
