The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood warning and a flood advisory for parts of the Las Vegas valley on Friday afternoon as thunderstorms moved through the region.
The flash flood warning, in effect until 4:15 p.m., was prompted by Doppler radar data showing storms producing heavy rainfall along Kyle Canyon Road. Additional rain was expected in the far northwest area of the valley, affecting parts of northwestern Clark County.
Alongside the warning, a broader flood advisory was issued and remained in effect until 4:45 p.m. The advisory included southern Nevada locations such as Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Nellis Air Force Base, Fremont Street, Aliante, Summerlin, Lone Mountain, North Las Vegas Airport, and Floyd Lamb Park.
A separate flood advisory remained active until 3:15 p.m. for mountainous and recreational areas, including Rainbow Canyon, Mt. Charleston, Spring Mountains, and multiple campgrounds such as Hilltop, Mahogany Grove, Kyle Canyon, Fletcher View, Dolomite, McWilliams, Mary Jane Falls, and Willow Creek.
The NWS reminded the public to avoid driving on flooded roads, warning that most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
Rain and wind also affected operations at Harry Reid International Airport, where travelers experienced gate hold and taxi delays ranging from 15 to 30 minutes.
