Major Airport in Las Vegas Affected by FAA’s 4-10 % Flight Cut Order

Harry Reid International Airport is among the U.S. hubs where at least 35 flights were cancelled on Friday, following a directive from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that scheduled flights at major airports be cut by 4–10 percent amid staffing concerns linked to the ongoing federal shutdown.
The cancellations — including 18 arrivals and 17 departures at the Las Vegas airport — were reported by Saturday afternoon and attributed to mandated reductions affecting “high-volume” airports nationwide. The FAA’s order affects commercial flights operating during peak daytime hours and excludes international routes.
Airlines serving Las Vegas, including Southwest, United and Delta, confirmed the cancellations and said they would work with customers to provide refunds or changes for impacted travel. Airport officials noted that Las Vegas already has seen eight consecutive months of passenger decline, with visitor volume down ahead of the upcoming Formula One Grand Prix and Thanksgiving travel period.
FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford described the move as “unprecedented” in his 35-year career, stressing the measure is preventive in nature due to increased call-outs and overtime among air traffic controllers working without pay during the shutdown.
