A man accused in a fatal shooting in Las Vegas last month has been returned to Nevada following his arrest in Southern California.
According to jail records, Jamon Hawkins, 21, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Saturday, January 10. He is being held on suspicion of open murder with a deadly weapon. Court records indicate a warrant return hearing is scheduled for Monday morning.
The shooting occurred shortly after 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, in the 1000 block of Sierra Vista Drive near Maryland Parkway and East Desert Inn Road. At the time, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that officers found a man deceased inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds.
Investigators later determined the victim had been involved in an argument with another individual prior to the shooting. Detectives identified Hawkins as a suspect during the investigation.
California Highway Patrol officers arrested Hawkins on Monday, December 29, after stopping him on Interstate 15 near Mountain Pass. He was held in California before being extradited back to Nevada.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains ongoing.
