Nevada Regulators Seek Court Order to Block Polymarket Operations

Nevada gaming regulators have filed a civil action seeking to block the prediction market platform Polymarket from operating within the state. The Nevada Gaming Control Board confirmed that a complaint was submitted on January 16 in Carson City District Court.
According to regulators, the filing requests a court declaration and an injunction that would prohibit Polymarket from offering what the board describes as unlicensed wagering in violation of Nevada law. The platform allows users to buy and sell shares tied to the outcomes of future events, including political and sports related scenarios, with participants wagering against one another rather than a traditional sportsbook.
The Gaming Control Board said it considers contracts tied to sports and certain other events to fall under the definition of wagering activity in Nevada. Under state law, such activity requires proper licensing and regulatory oversight. In its statement, the board emphasized that Nevada’s gaming industry is subject to strict regulation due to its significance to the state’s economy and public welfare.
Polymarket has not yet publicly responded to the complaint. Media outlets have reached out to the company for comment.
