Social media flyers promoting anti-ICE walkouts led to student protests at several Las Vegas schools on Wednesday, according to local officials. The flyers listed multiple campuses and indicated that the walkouts were scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. and continue until 1:11 p.m.
The flyers referenced the death of Renee Nicole Good in Minnesota and expressed concerns about immigration enforcement practices. Students reportedly participated in walkouts at several Las Vegas high schools, including Legacy High School and Cheyenne High School.
During a protest at Desert Rose High School, a student was struck by a vehicle. Sources said the student’s injuries were not believed to be serious. The driver remained at the scene and appeared to be cooperating with authorities.
In a statement, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said it was aware of the walkouts and was monitoring schools where students participated. Police also acknowledged videos circulating on social media showing Department of Homeland Security enforcement activity in the community, including some images identified as artificial intelligence generated. LVMPD emphasized that it does not take part in proactive immigration enforcement operations.
The situation remains under observation as school officials and law enforcement continue to monitor activity related to the protests.
