Party First, Nevada Last: Titus, Lee, Horsford Back Jeffries’ Push to Defund DHS

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, January 22, 2026 7:19 am

Nevadans woke up to another reminder that Washington Democrats put ideology first and public safety last.

House Democrats’ leader Hakeem Jeffries announced opposition to funding the Department of Homeland Security, a reckless move that threatens national security, airport screening, border protection, and disaster response. The message was loud and clear. If it polices the border or backs law enforcement, Democrats want it on the chopping block.

And right on cue, Nevada Democrats Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford fell in line.

Rather than standing up for Nevadans who depend on TSA agents to keep airports safe, Coast Guard members to protect our waters, and DHS resources to respond when disaster strikes, the trio joined the Democrat conga line. Party before people. Applause from the radical far left over common sense.

This is not leadership. It is submission.

Jeffries’ posture puts real people at risk. TSA agents who already work understaffed checkpoints. Coast Guard members stretched thin along America’s coastlines. Communities that rely on DHS during wildfires, floods, and emergencies. All of it jeopardized to satisfy an obsessive crusade to defund law enforcement and weaken immigration enforcement at the southern border.

Nevadans have seen this movie before. When Democrats talk about “values,” what they mean is pandering to activists who chant to abolish ICE and demonize the men and women who enforce the law. When they say “priorities,” they mean politics, not public safety.

Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford had a choice. Stand up to party bosses and protect Nevada families, or stay silent and salute. They chose silence. They chose surrender.

NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez did not mince words.

“Out of touch Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford will do anything to appease the ‘defund ICE’ crowd even if it means risking national security. Titus, Lee and Horsford’s rabid obsession with demonizing law enforcement and defunding ICE is not only wrong, it’s dangerous.”

The stakes could not be higher. DHS funding is not an abstract budget fight. It is the backbone of border security, aviation safety, counterterrorism, and emergency response. Blocking it is a direct threat to the safety and stability of the country.

Yet that is exactly what Democrats are doing, as reported by Axios. Instead of working to secure the border and support law enforcement, they are doubling down on the same radical playbook that voters rejected.

Nevadans deserve representatives with a backbone. What they got instead was three Democrats content to march in lockstep, no questions asked, while national security hangs in the balance.

At some point, falling in line stops being politics and starts being dangerous.
