Nevada 2026 Election Season Officially Underway as Candidate Filing Opens in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV — Nevada’s 2026 municipal and statewide election season officially kicked off today as the candidate filing period opened. Residents seeking public office began submitting paperwork for key seats, including Las Vegas City Council Wards 2, 4, and 6, judicial roles, and state and legislative contests.

The filing period runs through March 13, giving prospective candidates 10 days to make their intentions official. In previous weeks, many announced campaigns had already emerged, but this formal window allows them to complete the required filing process with county and city clerks.

Municipal candidates must file in person at the City Clerk’s office, while state and legislative hopefuls will file with county or Secretary of State offices as required under Nevada election law.

This surge in civic activity comes as voters across the Silver State prepare for a consequential election year that includes contests for statewide office, the Nevada Legislature, congressional seats, and local councils. The primary election is scheduled for June 9, with early voting beginning May 23, and the general election set for Nov. 3.

Election officials urge prospective candidates to finalize their paperwork early and to ensure all fees, identification, and documentation are in order to avoid delays. As the filing period proceeds, political watchers expect the candidate roster to take shape quickly, with surprises possible up until the deadline.
