A late-night hit-and-run in the central valley has left a 55-year-old man dead, adding to Southern Nevada’s growing traffic fatality count and renewing concerns about roadway safety and accountability.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police say the collision happened at approximately 10:38 p.m. on March 28 at the intersection of North Rancho Drive and West Washington Avenue. Investigators determined that a white 2017 Hyundai Sonata was traveling southbound on Rancho Drive when it struck a pedestrian crossing on the south side of the intersection.
The driver did not stop.
Emergency responders arrived within minutes and attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Police later located the vehicle believed to be involved, but the driver remains at large as of this writing.
The fatality marks the 35th traffic-related death within Metro’s jurisdiction in 2026, underscoring a troubling trend as incidents involving pedestrians continue to rise across the valley.
LVMPD’s Collision Investigation Section is actively working the case, reviewing surveillance footage and evidence to identify and locate the suspect.
Authorities are asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information about the driver or the circumstances surrounding the crash is urged to contact the LVMPD Collision Investigation Section at (702) 828-3595.
