NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV — The family of a long-term substitute teacher is calling for “stronger measures” and transparency from local law enforcement following a devastating high-speed collision involving a stolen vehicle driven by a juvenile.
Elizabeth Allen, 47, a teacher at Aggie Roberts Elementary School, was severely injured on March 28, 2024, at the intersection of Washburn Road and Losee Road. Allen’s Toyota RAV4 was struck by a stolen vehicle traveling at speeds estimated near 75 mph. While she remains in stable condition as of April 6, 2026, her family recently gathered at the crash site to demand answers regarding the police pursuit that preceded the impact.
Concerns Over Police Pursuit Policy
The North Las Vegas Police Department (NLVPD) confirmed that officers were following the reckless driver but stated the pursuit was “discontinued due to safety concerns” shortly before the collision occurred. However, Allen’s children expressed skepticism, questioning whether the pursuit itself contributed to the suspect’s high rate of speed in a residential area.
“I firmly believe that without the police chase, there’s no car going 70 or 80 mph,” said Shaun Andrews, Allen’s son. “This is a residential area… It’s just not safe.”
A Pattern of Juvenile Recklessness
The family’s plea for justice comes amid a string of high-profile juvenile-led auto thefts across the valley. Just last Friday, April 3, 2026, a 15-year-old driver in a stolen Hyundai Elantra crashed in Northwest Las Vegas after a police pursuit. That incident left a 14-year-old passenger with life-threatening injuries and sent two other teenagers to the hospital.
As of today, April 6, Allen’s family has launched a GoFundMe to assist with her extensive medical and rehabilitation costs as she faces a “long road back” to recovery.
