SPRING VALLEY, NV — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has officially named the officer who discharged his weapon during a high-stakes foot pursuit early Saturday morning, April 25.

The Incident Recap

  • Officer Identity: The officer is Alex Pena, 26. A member of the force since 2024, Officer Pena is currently assigned to the Tourist Safety Division within the Spring Valley Area Command.

  • The Confrontation: At approximately 3:23 AM on Saturday, Officer Pena attempted a person stop near the intersection of West Harmon Avenue and South Arville Street. The situation rapidly escalated when the suspect became uncooperative and fled on foot.

  • Armed Encounter: During the ensuing pursuit, the suspect—who was reportedly wearing body armor—allegedly pulled a firearm. This prompted Officer Pena to discharge his service weapon, striking the suspect.

  • Status: The suspect was transported to a local hospital and remains in stable condition. Following standard department protocol, Officer Pena has been placed on routine paid administrative leave while the Force Investigation Team (FIT) conducts a comprehensive review.
