After 43 Days of Chaos, Horsford Doubles Down on Failure

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, November 13, 2025 2:00 pm

After 43 days of chaos, grounded flights, and unpaid troops, Nevada Congressman Steven Horsford has made one thing clear,  his loyalty lies with Washington’s political games, not the people of Nevada.

On social media, Horsford tried to spin his decision to vote against reopening the government as a principled stand on “affordable health care.” In reality, his vote was a slap in the face to working families, service members, and union workers who endured the consequences of his party’s reckless shutdown.

For six weeks, Americans watched as Democrats in Congress refused to compromise, weaponizing the federal government and holding paychecks hostage. In Nevada, that meant uncertainty for federal employees, risk for our military families, and economic disruption across the state. While Horsford claimed he “opposed the shutdown from day one,” his actions,  not his words,  told a different story.

Instead of fighting for his district, Horsford promised to vote against $6 million in critical funding for Nevada’s 4th Congressional District. That includes:

Nellis Air Force Base Regional Communications Center: Design – $4 million

Nellis Air Force Base, F–35 Data Lab Support Facility: Design – $2 million

These investments are not “vague promises,” as Horsford dismissively called them, they’re concrete improvements for Nevada’s national security infrastructure and local jobs. Turning his back on them to score political points in Washington is indefensible.

While Horsford postures online about protecting affordable health care, Nevadans know better. He voted against reopening the government, against pay for federal workers, and against crucial defense funding that keeps Nellis Air Force Base operational. That’s not standing on principle — that’s political theater at its worst.

The irony is thick: the same congressman who claims to fight for working families just voted to keep them furloughed and their paychecks frozen.

As NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez put it: “Horsford and the Democrat Party’s government shutdown was nothing more than a disgusting and shameless display of just how far they will go to appease their radical socialist base. Nevada voters won’t forget it.”
