This week, The Globe reported that the National Journal put Rep. Dina Titus (NV-1) on “retirement watch” due to her abysmal fundraising numbers. According to her FEC filing, Titus raised only $122,000 in the third quarter. Today, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) has identified Titus as most at risk in the 2024 election. As an addition to this list, Titus joins her Democratic colleagues Steven Horsford and Susie Lee.
Roll Call reports that the Frontline program provides vulnerable incumbents with extra fundraising and messaging help:
The DCCC provides incumbents in the Frontline program with extra fundraising and messaging help. The designation signals to potential benefactors, from big-money contributors to small-dollar digital donors, where to send their cash. It’s the first Frontline list as the party enters a new cycle in the minority and with its new leadership roster that no longer includes former House Speaker and mega fundraiser Nancy Pelosi at the helm.
Titus, one of the first Democrats to back President Biden in 2020, votes with the President 100 percent of the time according to Five Thirty Eight.
Some of her most controversial votes include voting to extend the national COVID-19 emergency declared on March 13, 2020, lowering penalties for a number of violent crimes, including robberies and carjackings, opposed HR-1 that sought to expand clean energy initiatives through cutting bureaucratic red tape and investing in natural gas and mining resources abundant in the Silver State, and was the sole Nevada representative appointed to the Biden-Harris National Advisory Board to deliver the campaign’s message. The National Advisory Board includes a group of 50 progressive congressman, mayors and governors from around the country, including Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi.
According to recent polls, her allegiance to Biden comes at a time when his approval rating falls below 40 percent and gas prices in Nevada have surged to near-record highs. In 1997, Titus supported gas tax legislation that automatically raised Nevada’s fuel tax by the exact amount of any reduction at the federal level.
The Cook Political Report rates her district as “likely Democrat” as Titus will face the winner of the GOP primary which includes former challenger retired U.S. Army Colonel Mark Robertson, restaurant owner Flemming Larsen, and businessman Ron Quince.
Democrats need to win a net five seats to take back the majority in 2024.
NRCC Spokesperson Ben Petersen told The Globe, “Democrats are admitting what we’ve known all along. Dina Titus is woefully out of step with Nevada voters.”
