Today, former U.S. Senator Dean Heller released the following statement throwing his support behind Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo for Governor while also throwing some shade at Joey Gilbert’s lawsuit challenging the results of the Nevada Republican Gubernatorial primary.
“Joe Lombardo won the Republican nomination for governor fair and square, and as a former Nevada Secretary of State, I’ve seen lawsuits like this far too often. They’re almost always counterproductive and do serious damage to the reputation the Republican Party.
Now is the time to put an end to intra-party squabbling and unite in support of Joe Lombardo and fire Steve Sisolak in November for the good of the people of Nevada. Joey Gilbert promised publicly and repeatedly to support the Republican nominee for Governor. I urge him to keep his word.”
As reported by The Globe, Gilbert claimed to have irrefutable proof that the election was stolen and refused to concede the primary election after vote counts show he lost the race to Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo. Gilbert received 27.6 percent of the vote and swept the majority of rural counties. Lombardo received 38.4 percent of the vote, winning both Washoe and Clark county. Those two counties comprise more than 87 percent of the state’s active registered voters. A recount was conducted that did not change the outcome of June’s primary.
On July 18, Joey Gilbert, represented by attorney Craig Mueller, filed a lawsuit contesting the Nevada gubernatorial primary election. The defendants named in the suit are Governor Steve Sisolak, Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske, Sheriff Joe Lombardo, GOP nominee for Nevada governor, Clark County Registrar Joe Gloria, Clark County Commissioner Chairman Jim Gibson, Washoe County Commissioner Chairman Vaughn Hartung, and Washoe County Registrar Deanna Spikula.
GILBERT.PLD.220713.STATEMENT OF CONTEST FINAL1 (1) (1)The lawsuit alleges that the outcome of the June Primary election was mathematically and geometrically impossible and further claims that Gilbert won the primary by more than 50,000 votes. The lawsuit further demands that the plaintiffs provide the electronic voting machines used statewide for a forensic analysis.
Joey Gilbert told The Globe: “Why would you expect me to accept inaccurate election results in my race against Lombardo, when you have maintained for almost two years (as have I) that the 2020 Presidential Election was stolen from Donald Trump, and that ‘Joe Biden is an illegitimate President?’ Finally, regarding your wish for me to concede the election and unite with the Nevada Republican party in supporting Joe Lombardo. I’m sorry to say this, Dean, but for anyone who has morals and values that are not negotiable, that’s impossible. In their lack of character and competence, Joe Lombardo and Steve Sisolak are indistinguishable from each other without name tags. Neither one would do ANYTHING to significantly further “the good of the people of Nevada.”
