Conflict of interest, personal attacks and back door deals are alleged

The Globe has obtained paperwork filed by the Clark County Republican Party (CCRP) and Drew Johnson, candidate for Clark County Commissioner District F, challenging Clark County Registrar Joe Gloria’s appointment of Political Consultant Lisa Mayo DeRiso to the Clark County Election Certification Board.

As reported by The Globe, this spat began earlier this week when Johnson questioned DeRiso’s Republican voter registration, and also voiced concerns over her ability to be an objective appointee as she is a political consultant representing multiple campaigns, including Jenna Waltho, who is also running in the GOP primary for District F. The winner of the primary will face scandal-plagued Democratic incumbent Justin Jones in the general.

As a result of this appointment, The Clark County Republican Party (CCRP) filed an open records request with the Clark County Registrars office citing a “clear conflict of interest.”

CCRP Vice Chairman Patrick Casale told The Globe: “I have no personal issues with Lisa, but we are looking for objectivity and balance. When she is representing both Democratic and Republican candidates and receiving money from these candidates, it calls into question her allegiances.”

Johnson has simultaneously filed a complaint (see below) with the Nevada Secretary of State, Barbara Cegavske, citing similar similar concerns and highlighting DeRiso’s personal attacks on him and his family: “Most despicably, DeRiso threatened to “look into” my mother-in-law, Lynda Reeves. My wife’s beloved mother is afflicted with a terminal degenerative brain disease that causes her to have delusions, paranoia and other tragic symptoms. For DeRiso to threaten to release medical or personal information about my wife’s dying mother is pathetic and repugnant.”

The Nevada GOP chairman, Michael McDonald, told The Globe:

“Joe Gloria picking Lisa Mayo DeRiso as a Republican means that he should let me pick the Democrat. For him to pick a Republican is a joke. Why wouldn’t he ask the party to send a representative? This is another back door deal of Joe Gloria trying to stack the deck against Republicans in the election. This is wrong what he has done. I want to know who put this back door deal together.”
