From Tough Talk to Trump Derangement: Dina Titus’ Maduro Flip-Flop Exposed

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, January 7, 2026 6:00 am

When Democrat Rep. Dina Titus wasn’t worried about pleasing the far left, she spoke plainly about Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro calling his regime “dark” and expressing serious concern that he wouldn’t accept election results. In prior years, Titus even acknowledged the notion of accountability for Maduro’s crimes, including the discussion of imprisonment or truth-seeking mechanisms.

But listen to how her rhetoric changed once President Trump acted decisively on a legal operation that removed the indicted narco-terrorist from power.

On January 3, 2026, the U.S. carried out Operation Absolute Resolve, a military and law-enforcement effort that captured Maduro and brought him to the United States to face narco-terror and drug trafficking charges in federal court.

Instead of praising the removal of a brutal dictator, as her own past statements would suggest, Titus pivoted. Suddenly, this historic action became “bizarre and dangerous,” a line she echoed alongside a growing list of Democrats decrying a lawful operation simply because it was executed under Trump’s leadership.

That isn’t consistency, it’s Trump Derangement Syndrome on full display.

Before Trump’s move, Democrats like Titus were willing to talk tough on Maduro, when it didn’t require political courage. But when America actually acted, Democrats shifted to attacking the operation’s legality and questioning U.S. sovereignty, even as Maduro now stands charged in U.S. courts and faces accountability on American soil.

Complain all you want about procedural technicalities and War Powers debates but the fact is that Maduro now faces justice. That’s a far cry from dictatorship entrenched by corruption, drug trafficking, and human rights abuses.

Titus isn’t alone. Left-wing leaders are suddenly outraged because the operation wasn’t led by international organizations or delayed through endless congressional maneuvering. Some Democrats are even calling it an act of war and “illegal” despite its clear law-enforcement basis.

This is a pivot rooted not in principle, but in political survival. With approval ratings in the tank and trust eroding, attacking Trump, even on an initiative that was broadly consistent with past anti-Maduro positions, gives Democrats a talking point to appease the far left and distract from their domestic failures.

RNC Spokesman Nick Poche put it bluntly: “Titus is running scared and flip-flopping on her previous positions in a sad attempt to improve her image and raise money. It reeks of desperation; Titus should stop placating the radical left and start being honest that arresting Maduro helps make America safe again.”

And NRCC Spokesman Christian Martinez added, “President Trump ended the excuses and put a narcoterrorist where he belongs. Voters see the difference between weak appeasement and strong leadership.”

When it was safe and symbolic, Titus wasn’t afraid to criticize Maduro. But when bold, decisive, legally justified action removed a global threat, she changed tunes because politics matters more than principles.

America and Nevada voters deserve leaders who back strength and accountability, not partisan posturing.
