The Las Vegas chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (LVDSA) amplified a tweet expressing their “steadfast solidarity with Palestine” after Hamas terrorists systematically murdered and abducted Israelis, many of them women and children, in a large-scale terror attack that left over 900 dead and hundreds reportedly held captive.
The Nevada War Room, an operative/communications arm of Lombardo’s Better Nevada PAC, captured their retweet and issued a blistering challenge to Nevada Democrats resulting in the LVDSA blocking them on X (formerly Twitter). In 2022, the LVDSA endorsed every Democratic candidate.
The LVDSA once controlled the Nevada Democratic party and hosted “solidarity events” condemning Israeli “apartheid.”
As reported by the Globe, Former NV Dem Chairwoman Judith Whitmer caused the resignation of her colleague and treasurer, Howard Beckerman, when she said that the Biden administration turned a “blind eye to the injustice and violence committed by the Israeli government.”
Beckerman, in a letter obtained by the Las Vegas Review Journal, stated: “I have been taking a stand my entire life to stand with the people of Israel to live in peace and to be free of the constant and ongoing terrorism practiced by those who seek its destruction and the annihilation of the Jewish people.”
Beckerman’s letter revealed that it was Whitmer’s statement that forced his exit: “It is for this reason, and this reason alone, that I am resigning my position as NV Democratic State Treasurer effective immediately. I cannot be a party to that statement and will not give ‘cover’ to any person or organization that issues that statement.”
In March of this year, Whitmer was ousted and replaced by Assemblywoman Daniel Monroe-Moreno who has yet to issue a statement on the terrorist attacks against Israel as the last tweet by Nevada Democrats highlighted Nevada’s Democratic congressional delegation attending a Pride parade in Las Vegas this weekend.
On Saturday afternoon, Governor Joe Lombardo immediately condemned the attacks. On Sunday Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen released a statement expressing her support of Israel.
Today, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the Israeli military is going on the offense against Hamas with a force “like never before.”
“We always knew who Hamas was. Now, the rest of the world knows. Hamas is ISIS and we will win against them as the modern world prevailed against ISIS,” Netanyahu said in a televised speech to the nation.
“Israel is at a war. We didn’t want this war. It was forced upon us in the most brutal and savage way. But though Israel didn’t start this war, Israel will finish it,” he said.
This afternoon, Governor Lombardo announced that he would lower the flags to half-staff and light the Nevada State Capitol Building blue in honor of the victims of the terror attacks in Israel. Per Governor Lombardo, the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada will be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and all state public buildings and grounds beginning at sunrise on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. The flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
The Globe has reached out to the Nevada Democrats and Assemblywoman Monroe-Moreno for comment. We will update the story with their comments if received.
