Part 7: Mining Jobs Surge with Permitting Reform

Our 20-part series, Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill: Nevada’s Wins and Losses, cheers Nevada’s $10 billion mining industry. The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” (Sec. 3001) streamlines permitting, cutting approval times for projects in Elko and Winnemucca. A gold mine like Barrick’s, delayed two years, now starts in months, adding 500 jobs.
The Nevada Mining Association projects 1,000 jobs by 2027, echoing the 2010 boom when fast permits doubled output. In 2024, mining contributed $3 billion to Nevada’s GDP. Critics warn of environmental risks, but rural workers need paychecks now.
Nevada’s miners built our state, from Comstock to today. As jobs grow, consider: Will this revive rural towns, or are we trading nature for short-term gains?
