In a crowded GOP gubernatorial field, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo landed what has become a coveted endorsement.

Yesterday, President Donald Trump released a statement that he would be backing Lombardo for Governor. Trump announced,  “Sheriff Joe Lombardo is running for Governor of the Great State of Nevada…As the elected Sheriff of Clark County, Joe has fought some of the worst criminals and defended neighborhoods and communities from the horrific violence enabled by the Radical Left across our country. As Governor, Joe will fiercely Protect our under-siege Second Amendment, Protect Life and Secure our Elections. Joe Lombardo is the leader Nevada needs, and he has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Governor.”

The Lombardo campaign released this comment:

“I’m grateful to receive President Donald Trump’s endorsement today. From his tough on crime policies to his unwavering support of law enforcement, I know that there has been no greater friend to veterans and police officers than President Trump,” said Sheriff Lombardo. “As a veteran and law enforcement officer myself, I’m humbled to accept President Trump’s endorsement. I’m ready to get to work restoring law & order, fixing our education system, and building a strong economy in our great state as your next governor.”

This endorsement may give Lombardo, considered the financial front runner, the edge he needs in a state that President Biden won by only two points. Sisolak has amassed a significant war chest with nearly $10 million in the bank, compared to Lombard0’s $3 million.

However, at a time when Nevadan’s face skyrocketing inflation, gas prices, food prices, high unemployment and the worst public school system in the nation, money in the bank may not translate to voters at the polls. According to the latest polls, over 50% of Nevadan’s believe that the state is headed in the wrong direction.

Adding to the midterm malaise is Biden’s cratering poll numbers. Biden’s approval in Nevada, according to Civiqs, is a shocking 33/59. A -26 will be very difficult to overcome, as even Gov Sisolak’s pollster, John Anzalone, acknowledged when he called 2022 “the worst political environment I have lived through in 30 years of being a political consultant.”
