Steak for Congress, Scraps for Nevadans: Inside Democrats’ Donor-Funded D.C. Lifestyle

Nevada families are still tightening their belts after years of crippling inflation but Nevada’s Democratic delegation isn’t exactly joining them. According to new campaign finance data, Reps. Dina Titus, Susie Lee, and Steven Horsford have been indulging in a steady stream of high-end dining, racking up tabs at some of Washington, D.C.’s most exclusive restaurants, all while voting for policies that keep gas, groceries, and energy bills sky-high for the very people they claim to represent.
It’s a revealing window into the priorities of Nevada’s Democrats: austerity for you, luxury for them.
The Nevada Independent reviewed where members of Congress spent their campaign dollars on food and beverage, and the results show a familiar pattern. While Nevada families stretch every dollar, Titus, Lee, and Horsford are comfortably enjoying the D.C. elite lifestyle, a lifestyle funded by donors, even as their voting records continue driving up costs back home.
Their restaurant habits wouldn’t matter much if they weren’t paired with votes opposing affordable domestic energy, blocking middle-class tax relief, and embracing federal policies that have driven up the cost of living across the West. But the contrast is too sharp to ignore: Nevada Democrats order steak in Washington while Nevadans skip items in the grocery aisle.
Rep. Dina Titus, who recently scoffed at the idea of lowering energy prices, has no problem spending campaign cash at high-end spots while families in her district face some of the most punishing utility costs in the country.
Rep. Susie Lee, who brands herself as a “pragmatist,” appears perfectly at home in the D.C. restaurant circuit even as she votes in lockstep with the Biden agenda that helped make household staples unaffordable.
And Rep. Steven Horsford, a perennial champion of big-government spending, enjoys the trappings of Washington while Nevada’s working families continue feeling the squeeze.
For Nevada’s Democratic delegation, the D.C. lifestyle isn’t just a perk, it’s the priority. The people they represent aren’t dining in upscale Washington restaurants; they’re budgeting for rent, cutting subscriptions, and praying their next grocery run doesn’t break the bank.
While House Republicans push to unleash American energy, reduce prices, and restore affordability, Nevada Democrats seem far more focused on savoring the Beltway lifestyle than easing the burdens of the people who sent them to Congress.
Nevadans deserve representatives who understand their everyday struggles, not ones too busy scanning wine lists in Washington to notice.
