Steven Horsford Says Las Vegas Is Affordable — Nevadans Know Better

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, December 16, 2025 4:00 pm

Rep. Steven Horsford may represent Las Vegas, but his comments on MSNOW sounded like they came from a Washington bubble.

In a moment that stunned many Nevadans, Horsford claimed that in Las Vegas, “a guest room attendant can still afford to buy a home and get by.” Anyone who has paid rent, shopped for a house, or opened a utility bill recently knows how detached that statement is from reality.

Las Vegas has experienced sharp increases in housing prices, rents, insurance costs, and utilities. Hospitality workers — the backbone of the city’s economy are increasingly squeezed, not thriving. Homeownership is slipping further out of reach for middle-class families, not becoming more attainable.

Horsford’s comment reveals a deeper problem: Democrats talk endlessly about affordability, but too often deny the crisis staring voters in the face. When leaders pretend everything is fine, nothing gets fixed.

Conservatives understand that affordability starts with acknowledging reality. Horsford’s rosy portrayal of Las Vegas may play well on cable news, but it does nothing for families trying to make ends meet.
