The Failing New York Times Downplays Criminal Illegal Immigration – Nevadans Know Better

The New York Times is back at it, publishing yet another glossy “nothing to see here” piece, this time attempting to reassure Americans that illegal immigrants arrested by ICE aren’t really criminals. According to the Times’ data project, most individuals arrested lacked “serious criminal records.” What they conveniently bury: every single person featured in this analysis has already broken U.S. law by being here illegally.
Nevadans don’t need a Manhattan newsroom to explain the consequences of illegal immigration they’ve seen them firsthand. For years, state and local law enforcement have dealt with the fallout of porous borders and weak federal enforcement. Across Nevada’s communities, from Las Vegas to Reno, illegal immigrants charged with violent crimes have repeatedly made headlines.
Just last year, Nevadans were horrified by the case of Wilber Ernesto Martinez-Guzman, an illegal immigrant who murdered four Americans across Northern Nevada, including elderly residents in Gardnerville and South Reno. Before that, Las Vegas authorities arrested Edgar Samaniego, a DACA recipient, for shooting a police officer in the head during 2020 riots. And while liberals dismiss these incidents as “statistical outliers,” the truth is simple: one preventable crime is one too many.
The Times’ framing also ignores Nevada’s unique vulnerabilities. As a hospitality hub that draws millions each month, Nevada relies on law enforcement and federal immigration partners to keep the state safe. When Washington weakens enforcement, Nevada feels the strain immediately: more human trafficking cases, more cartel activity along I-15, and more repeat offenders slipping through the cracks.
Nevadans overwhelmingly believe in legal immigration and maintaining a secure, orderly system. What they reject – loudly is the elite-media effort to sanitize lawbreaking and downplay the consequences for working families and victims who can’t defend themselves.
So, while the Times hopes Americans skim their infographic and shrug, Nevadans know better. They know the costs. They’ve seen the tragedies. And they’re tired of D.C. Democrats and legacy media pretending the border crisis is a mirage when the consequences are happening in their own neighborhoods.
In Nevada, public safety isn’t a data visualization- it’s reality. And no amount of spin from the New York Times will change that.
