Harris told the crowd, ‘Joe Biden is a fighter…In November, we will win’

Speaking to a crowd of a few hundred supporters at Resorts World in Las Vegas yesterday afternoon, Vice President Kamala Harris rallied for President Joe Biden in the wake of the ongoing controversy over the president’s mental acuity and capacity to serve. The event launched the group Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders for Biden where she was met with chants of “Four more years.”
The campaign stop was the vice president’s sixth visit to the Silver State this year. During her near-16 minute address, she avoided the calls for Biden to step down and and did not mention Biden’s disastrous debate performance.
Instead, Harris spoke with confidence and unity, telling the crowd that “Joe Biden is a fighter…He is the first to say, ‘When you get knocked down you get back up.'” “So we continue to fight, and we will continue to organize. And in November, we will win,” Harris said.
There is no doubt that President Biden is getting knocked down… in the polls, specifically in the battleground state of Nevada.
Yesterday, the Cook Political Report shifted six electoral college ratings towards Republicans, moving Nevada from “Toss Up” to Lean Republican. Additional polling in Nevada shows that former President Donald Trump is leading Biden by an average of 5 points, a significant shift as Trump lost Nevada by 2.4 points to Biden in 2020.
‘We are 118 days out from the election. And while many of us have been involved with these elections every four years and nearly every time we say, ‘this is the one.’ Well, this here is the one. This is the one. The most existential, consequential and important election of our lifetime,’ Harris said from the podium.
Harris reminded the crowd of the accomplishments of the Biden-Harris administration, including forgiving student loans for five million Americans (in defiance of the Supreme Court ruling which found the program unconstitutional), capping the cost of insulin at $35 for seniors, and passing the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act which addressed the increase in violence against Asian Americans during the pandemic.
Although inflation, the economy and the border are the top issues of polled Nevada voters, the administration’s “Border Czar” avoided those concerns, using her brief remarks to focus on abortion and vilify Trump, the Supreme Court, and “extremist” congressional republicans.
Harris falsely claimed that Trump would sign a national abortion ban, despite the fact that Trump has said he would leave the issue up to the states. According to Nevada law, abortion is allowed up to six months of pregnancy and beyond if the life of the mother is threatened.
Harris also falsely claimed that Trump’s platform was based on Project 2025, a myriad of conservative policy proposals spearheaded by the Heritage Foundation. Trump has denied his association with or adoption of the project’s proposals.
The vice president then wildly charged that “Donald Trump wants to turn our democracy into a dictatorship and the Supreme Court basically just declared he can get away with it,” referring to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling regarding presidential immunity. “If the Supreme Court says the laws do not apply to Donald Trump, if people like Mike Pence are not around to stand up to him and if extremists in Congress continue to bow down to him, our last line of defense is the ballot box,” she said.
Throwing additional red meat to her supporters, Harris told the cheering crowd, “Someone who vilified immigrants, who promotes xenophobia, someone who stokes hate, should never again have the chance to stand behind a microphone and the seal of the president of the United States.”
Halee Dobbins, the Republican National Committee’s Nevada State Communications Director, responded: “Kamala Harris once again has chosen to visit Las Vegas despite poor poll numbers, most recently from Democrat firm OpenLabs, spelling disaster for Joe Biden following his abysmal debate performance. Because of out-of-control spending by the Biden-Harris administration, Nevadans have seen soaring prices, record-high gas prices, and wages that have not kept up with the pace of inflation. The proclaimed ‘Border Czar’ has done nothing but make our border less safe and secure, making every state a border state. Nevada voters know Joe Biden and Kamala can’t handle the economy or our immigration system and are ready for a return to President Trump’s pro-growth, pro-border security, low-tax agenda.”
