GOP Challenger Sam Peters Calls On Rep. Steven Horsford to Resign

Peters: ‘If he will extort his wife, what will he do to you, his constituent?’

Sam Peters, GOP challenger to Rep. Steven Horsford (CD-4), held a press conference this morning and called on Horsford to resign due to his ex-wife’s public allegations of bullying, intimidation and violence. Peters noted that he will be sending a letter to the House Committee on Ethics to request an investigation into the allegations against Horsford and charged, “If he will extort his wife, what will he do to you, his constituent?”

Peters noted he has largely stayed away from bringing up Rep. Horsford’s affair, “But, today it comes time to address serious concerns about Mr. Horsford’s integrity,” Peters told the press.

The Globe has been the only Nevada outlet to report on her latest allegations, which Peters noted in is press conference, and blasted the local media for their silence adding that “the silence from the rest of the outlets is curious just eight days away from election day…Nevada needs journalists to do their jobs.”

Peters also asked the Las Vegas Review Journal to qualify their endorsement of Horsford by claiming that Horsford had “gained the trust of his constituents.” Peters added, “I have never known a circumstance where bullying a spouse, showing violent tendencies towards women, and cheating on your wife for 10 years inspires trust. And just for the record, I am not asking for your endorsement, I am asking you to do your job.”

Only one reporter asked a question.

The Globe spoke to Peters after the press conference. Peters told The Globe:

“I noted three actions items in the press conference. One, I am going to file a letter with the House Committee on Ethics for an investigation into his behavior as he violates the House Code of Conduct.  Two, Horsford resigns immediately. Three, I ask that the rest of the media do their jobs and report on things that are this important.”
