A Family Experiences Christmas Miracle After Their Things Were Stolen From U-Haul Truck

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – A family that had everything stolen shortly after arriving to Las Vegas saw a Christmas miracle when it was all discovered on Thanksgiving day.

Melissa Bair and her family relocated to Las Vegas a week ago, with their whole lives packed into a U-Haul truck. However, panic ensued when not only their U-Haul truck, but also their SUV hitched to it, was taken.

“All of our belongings from the move, our whole life just left in there and someone took it,” Bair said.

Bair, her husband Adam, and their six children relocated from Maine for a fresh start, but when they awoke on Nov. 21 to find their U-Haul Truck and SUV gone from where they had parked on Rochelle Avenue, they were shocked.

“All of the sentimental things that were in there, and our kids were just devastated,” Bair said. “We found a lock on the ground from the U-Haul door as someone just popped it out and drove off with everything.”

Bair got a tip on Thanksgiving night that their U-Haul and SUV were parked only a few blocks away, with most of the family’s things still inside, after filing a police report and posting on social media.

“A lot of the stuff that was in the front of the U-Haul is missing, but I’m just thankful for what was in the back, most of my kid’s belongings and the sentimental things, and those weren’t touched,” Bair said.

In terms of insurance, the Bair family had what U-Haul provided, but it only insured the U-Haul and none of their personal things.

While the family is pleased for the return of most of their personal belongings, the incident has made them reconsider how they would manage a similar relocation in the future.

“I wish we would have had a GPS and had an alarm. Maybe put a boot on the wheel, just wish we would have done more to prevent this from happening because the U-Haul was way too easy to break into and steal.” Bair said.
