Family Files Lawsuit Over Worker’s Death During F1 Grandstand Construction in Las Vegas

A wrongful death lawsuit has been filed following the death of a worker during construction of the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix grandstands in 2023.
The suit was filed on behalf of 37-year-old Tizoc Antonio, who died on Sept. 23, 2023. His mother, listed as his only surviving parent, is also named in the case. Defendants include Evolution Power Tools LLC, Standard Steel Limited, MGM Resorts International, Bellagio, and other companies allegedly connected to the project.
According to the lawsuit, construction work began after Bellagio and Carma entered into a contract in February 2023 for the building of grandstands at the Fountains of Bellagio. Standard Steel was tasked with providing labor, materials, and equipment for the job. Work began in mid-September with a target completion date in October.
On Sept. 23, Antonio reported for his first day of work at the site around 4 a.m. The lawsuit alleges he was assigned to operate equipment that lacked required safety features, including a saw without an anti-kickback mechanism. The filing claims that safety issues were known but not corrected, and argues the defendants failed to provide proper warnings about the risks.
The lawsuit asserts that if the proper safety measures had been in place, Antonio’s death could have been prevented. The family accuses the defendants of prioritizing speed and profits over worker safety.
The family is seeking damages in excess of $15,000 and has requested a jury trial. FOX5 reached out to the companies named in the lawsuit but did not receive a comment as of publication.
