Firefighters Battling Bird Springs Fire Near Las Vegas Nearing Containment

Firefighters are making headway in containing a wildfire that has been burning west of Las Vegas since Memorial Day. The blaze, known as the Bird Springs Fire, is estimated at 150 acres and is now 30% contained, according to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Ignited shortly before noon on Monday, the fire is located just off State Route 160, roughly seven miles east of Mountain Springs. Crews have been working diligently to suppress the flames, and by Tuesday evening, full containment is anticipated.

“Very minimal smoke is showing from the air and crews on the ground are engaged and finding minimal heat on the fireline,” said BLM spokeswoman Kirsten Cannon in an email update.

Firefighters have been utilizing a combination of hand tools, fire engines, and single-engine air tankers to combat the blaze. Fortunately, no structures are currently threatened, and there have been no reported road closures or injuries.

The cause of the fire is believed to be human-related, with the BLM currently investigating the specifics.
