HENDERSON, NV — The Henderson Police Department, in coordination with state investigators, has dismantled an elaborate fraud operation centered around a local classic car restoration business. Authorities confirmed Monday that a business owner has been taken into custody following a months-long investigation into a global “classic truck scam.”
The Scheme Revealed
The investigation centers on a restoration shop that specialized in high-end, vintage truck rebuilds. According to police, the owner allegedly targeted collectors and enthusiasts worldwide, accepting massive down payments—sometimes exceeding $100,000 per project—for custom work that was never completed.
In many cases, investigators say the business would “ghost” clients for years or, in more brazen instances, sell the same vehicle to multiple buyers simultaneously.
Scope of the Investigation
-
Global Reach: Detectives have identified at least 30 victims spanning across the United States, Europe, and Australia.
-
Estimated Losses: Preliminary audits suggest the total financial loss exceeds $3.5 million.
-
The Charges: The business owner faces multiple felony counts, including grand larceny, obtaining money under false pretenses, and operating a fraudulent business.
A Pattern of Deception
Local authorities began looking into the shop after several civil lawsuits were filed in Clark County District Court. Victims reported being sent staged “progress photos” of trucks that either belonged to other customers or were simply pulled from the internet. When buyers attempted to visit the Henderson facility in person, they were often met with locked doors or told their vehicles were “at the paint shop” in another state.
Henderson Police are urging anyone who has conducted business with classic truck restoration shops in the area and suspects they may be a victim to come forward.
