Clark County Approves $2.5M Overhaul for Las Vegas Strip Pedestrian Bridges

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Clark County Commission officially authorized a multimillion-dollar funding package Monday afternoon, greenlighting critical repairs for the aging pedestrian bridge network that funnels millions of visitors across the Las Vegas Strip annually.

The Project Scope

The commission approved a budget ranging from $2.3 million to $2.56 million to address structural and aesthetic wear on several key crossings. The primary focus of the initial phase will be the four iconic bridges at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, a high-density area surrounded by major resorts like Bellagio, Caesars Palace, and Bally’s (Horseshoe).

Planned enhancements include:

  • Surface Restoration: Full deck resurfacing to repair cracks and improve traction.

  • Safety Upgrades: Installation of new handrails and state-of-the-art LED lighting.

  • Structural Integrity: Specialized “moisture intrusion” fixes to prevent long-term corrosion.

The Escalator Crisis

During the meeting, Commissioner Tick Segerblom acknowledged the public’s ongoing frustration with out-of-service escalators. He noted that the county faces a unique “parts bottleneck,” explaining that many components are custom-made by manufacturers that are now defunct. This often requires parts to be hand-machined or ordered internationally, leading to the months-long outages that have plagued pedestrians.

Funding Source

Officials emphasized that the project will not place a burden on local residents. The repairs are entirely funded through the Strip Resort Corridor Room Tax, a dedicated revenue stream generated by hotel guests specifically for infrastructure within the tourist district.
