Henderson Man Charged With Arson and Assault After Police Shooting
LAS VEGAS – Henderson Police say a man whose parents said he was having a mental breakdown and “would fight with authorities until they killed him” was charged with arson and assault following an officer-involved shooting outside a burning home Tuesday.
Officers responded to a family disturbance involving a suicidal person around 11:55 a.m. Tuesday. The caller reported they had gone but their 19-year-old son was still inside.
When authorities arrived, they saw black smoke and flames. Ellsworth exited the home with a long shot weapon and pointed it at the officers before the shooting began.
Police first said Ellsworth shot at cops before the exchange of gunfire.
Police say Ellsworth walked back inside and left without the gun.
No casualties were recorded in the fire, authorities added.
Ellsworth is in custody at the Henderson Detention Center and charged with arson and assault with a deadly weapon.
Police are investigating.
