LAS VEGAS — A heartbreaking scene unfolded Sunday evening at a hotel located just blocks away from the Las Vegas Strip. Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to the Rio Hotel & Casino shortly after 6:00 PM following a request for a welfare check. Upon entering a guest room, investigators discovered the bodies of a woman and a preteen girl.
Homicide Lieutenant Robert Price confirmed this afternoon that the incident is being investigated as a murder-suicide. Preliminary evidence suggests the mother fatally shot her daughter before turning the weapon on herself. The family was reportedly in town for a youth competition, adding a layer of communal grief to the tragedy. While the names of the deceased have not yet been released by the Clark County Coroner, the incident underscores the silent crises that can unfold behind closed doors, even in a city defined by its public-facing energy.
