LAS VEGAS, Nev. (702 Times, NV Globe) – The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is informing Las Vegas drivers that the Interstate 15 at Tropicana will be closed this weekend.
The north and southbound lanes of Interstate 15 will be affected, according to a news release. According to the EPA, the expressway will close between Russell and Flamingo roads at 10 p.m. Friday, January 27th, till 5 a.m. on Monday, January 30th.
According to NDOT, there will be posted diversions at Russell and Flamingo roads throughout the closure. However, NDOT expects diversion routes to fill up rapidly.
According to the agency, it is collaborating with authorities to staff detour routes with uniformed employees and clearly designated patrol cars.
Furthermore, according to NDOT, RTC/FAST will monitor traffic 24/7 throughout the closure and can change signal timing as needed to assist relieve congestion.
According to NDOT, vehicles are recommended to avoid the area if possible or to use a navigation app to detour around the bottlenecks.
The closure, according to NDOT, “is necessary to demolish the north half of the Tropicana bridge over I-15, which is being rebuilt taller, wider, and longer, with additional capacity and safety enhancements for drivers and pedestrians.”
The organization says it is working with authorities to staff detour routes. It also says that when Tropicana Avenue reopens on Monday morning, it will be restricted to two lanes in each direction. According to NDOT, the ramps from southbound I-15 to Tropicana will be blocked for many months until the bridge is renovated.
According to NDOT, the I-15/Tropicana Design-Build project began in May and is projected to last through early 2025.
