Lawsuit Alleges Hotel’s Inaction Allowed Known Criminals to Prey on Guests

By TheNevadaGlobeStaff, March 10, 2025 5:40 pm

In March 2023, 55-year-old Jeffrey Jacoby from Colorado was found dead in a bathroom at the Palazzo hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. The coroner determined his death resulted from a combination of fentanyl and ethanol. Notably, both his wallet and phone were missing from the room.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrests of Kashon Glass, 38, and Cheylee Kessee, 24. Both accepted plea deals related to charges of robbery and voluntary manslaughter connected to Jacoby’s death. In November, Clark County District Court Judge Jacqueline Bluth sentenced Glass to a minimum of 20 years in prison and Kessee to at least eight years.

Surveillance footage from the night of the incident showed Jacoby and Kessee together in the hotel. Text messages between Kessee and Glass discussed plans to rob Jacoby before Kessee accompanied him to his room. Days later, during a separate operation targeting sex workers at another Strip property, police arrested Kessee. She admitted to smoking fentanyl with Jacoby before his death. Glass was later apprehended in possession of fentanyl.

The lawsuit contends that the hotel had prior knowledge of Kessee and Glass’s activities targeting guests but failed to act, thereby neglecting guest safety. It further alleges that security personnel made no effort to remove the duo from the premises. Both suspects faced charges for multiple other robberies, including an incident where firearms were discovered concealed in a toilet.

The widow is seeking a jury trial and a minimum of $15,000 in damages, as stipulated by civil case statutes. At this time, representatives from the hotel have not provided comments on the lawsuit.
