Lithium Battery Truck Crash Causes Highway Closure in Nevada

Nye County, NV – A fiery crash involving a lithium battery truck shut down part of U.S. Highway 95 on Tuesday morning. This incident marks the latest in a series of such accidents involving trucks carrying these highly flammable batteries.

The crash occurred near Mile Marker 13 in Nye County, between State Route 160 and Mercury. Two semi-trucks were involved, with one carrying wood and the other transporting 31,000 pounds of lithium batteries. The lithium batteries caught fire, causing significant damage and disrupting traffic flow.

Both truck drivers sustained minor injuries. Southbound traffic was diverted to State Route 160, while northbound traffic was turned around at Indian Springs.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash. This incident highlights the potential dangers associated with transporting lithium batteries and underscores the need for stringent safety measures to prevent future accidents.
