Left Turn Struck Pedestrian Inside Crosswalk

According to evidence gathered by Metro’s Collision Investigation Section, the incident unfolded shortly before 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29.

The 46-year-old pedestrian was traversing South Las Vegas Boulevard inside a designated, marked crosswalk at the intersection of Four Seasons Drive, adjacent to the Mandalay Bay and Four Seasons resort properties.

At the same time, the driver of a Jeep Compass attempted to complete a left-hand turn onto Las Vegas Boulevard.

The vehicle entered the crosswalk and struck the man, knocking him to the asphalt.

Clark County Fire Department emergency paramedics responded within minutes, treating the victim for what initially appeared to be moderate traumatic impact injuries.

He was rushed by ambulance to the Trauma Center at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

On Wednesday morning, personnel from the Clark County Coroner’s Office officially notified Metro traffic investigators that the victim had succumbed to internal complications.

The driver of the Jeep Compass stopped immediately after impact, remained at the scene, and cooperated fully with responding patrol officers.

Investigators conducted field sobriety evaluations and confirmed that the driver did not display signs of alcohol or drug impairment.

Primary fault in the crash remains focused on failure to yield to a pedestrian lawfully in the roadway.
