Search Suspended for Missing Las Vegas Pilot as High Winds Hamper Rescue Efforts

The search for missing Las Vegas pilot Michael Martin was temporarily halted Monday due to dangerous high winds in Nye County. Martin, who took off from the North Las Vegas Airport on Jan. 2, went missing when his plane’s signals stopped transmitting near Indian Springs.

Efforts to locate him have been extensive, with search crews focusing on Round Mountain and Goldfield over the weekend using K9 teams. Private pilots have also been assisting in combing the area near Tonopah. Despite these efforts, high winds forced authorities to suspend aerial searches for safety reasons, with plans to possibly resume operations on Wednesday.

Sheriff Joe McGill of Nye County has urged the public to stay away from Round Mountain, citing snowy and frigid conditions that could pose further risks. “We don’t want to rescue anyone else while conducting this search,” McGill stated.

Authorities remain hopeful but cautious as the search continues for Martin, who has not been heard from since his disappearance earlier this month.
