SNHD Reports Travel-Linked Cyclosporiasis Case as FDA & CDC Monitor Multistate Produce Outbreak

LAS VEGAS, NV — The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) has officially confirmed a Clark County resident has tested positive for Cyclospora, an intestinal parasite linked to a widespread national foodborne illness outbreak.

Health officials confirmed the individual contracted the infection while traveling outside of Nevada, with zero current evidence pointing to local community transmission.

Out-of-State Travel and National Outbreak Connections

According to the official public health press release issued by SNHD, the Clark County resident traveled to two states currently under investigation for a major multistate Cyclospora outbreak before returning home and developing symptoms.

Cyclosporiasis is a microscopic parasitic infection usually acquired by consuming fresh produce or water contaminated with fecal matter. While the CDC has tracked thousands of cases nationally this season, local officials note that five sporadic cases have been logged in Clark County this year, matching typical annual baselines.

Federal health agencies, including the FDA and CDC, have been actively conducting traceback investigations targeting commercial supply chains. While initial preliminary testing flagged certain wholesale shredded iceberg lettuce lots, subsequent FDA laboratory analyses ruled out positive product samples.
