LAS VEGAS, NV — A teenage girl competing in a national equestrian event in Las Vegas was arrested over the weekend after three competitive horses were intentionally targeted and wounded with a knife, according to authorities.

The juvenile suspect face multiple severe felony counts following a rapid multi-agency investigation handled by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s (LVMPD) Animal Cruelty Section.

The South Point Stable Security Breach

The dynamic incident unfolded during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the South Point Hotel, Casino & Spa facility located along the south resort corridor of Las Vegas Boulevard. The venue was actively hosting the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) Professional’s Choice Las Vegas Super Show, which drew hundreds of regional competitors over the weekend.

According to an LVMPD media release, patrol units responded to the commercial property shortly after 2:00 AM after a stable hand reported that a horse had sustained severe, unexplained laceration injuries inside a barn housing the competitive livestock.

Upon arriving at the staging grid, responding patrol officers and specialized animal cruelty detectives discovered that three separate horses had sustained clean wounds from a sharp object. Veterinarians quickly determined that the deep laceration injuries had been intentionally inflicted.

Identification and Juvenile Booking

Detectives reviewing localized barn access and venue security profiles quickly identified an underage female competitor as the primary suspect. Investigators noted that because the teenager was registered in the NBHA event, she possessed valid, unhindered access to the specialized barn infrastructure where the victimized horses were stalled.

Detectives located the suspect at a neighboring hotel property shortly after the discovery and took her into custody without further incident. Due to statutory privacy laws governing minors, her name, age, and hometown are being withheld by law enforcement command staff.

The suspect was transported and processed into the Clark County Juvenile Hall. Court logs confirm she has been booked on 12 independent counts of Willful or Malicious Maiming, Killing, or Torturing of a Horse, alongside three distinct felony counts of Malicious Destruction of Private Property Exceeding $5,000.

The NBHA released a formal statement addressing the situation, characterizing it as a highly isolated and tragic event involving the mistreatment of equine athletes by an event competitor. While the wounded horses required emergency veterinary sutures and were pulled from the remainder of the weekend competition tiers, their injuries are fortunately not considered life-threatening.
